The second week after my surgery, Jason and Rachel came to visit which made for excellent medicine, although all the laughter did hurt my stitches! We were so happy to see them and hear about all their adventures on their sailboat and on their honeymoon in Turkey, and about their search for their next hometown. We wandered the farmers market, hit up our favorite gelato and yogurt places, and enjoyed bocce on the beach at Anna Maria. We also enjoyed our first eggs from the chickens with them as the ladies had just started laying.
The ladies were great entertainment in May as we watched them figure out what to do in a nesting box - we also watched them undergo physical and behavioral changes as they outgrew their "teenager" phase and started to enjoy being petting and cuddled again like when they were chicks. They're also became a lot more trusting and easier to pick up. For pictures of the ladies all grown up with their bright combs, wattles, and adult plumage, check out our Picasa site.
Memorial Day weekend we spent getting some more work done in the yard, picking up chicken feed and exploring plant nurseries in Sarasota, and then we took a night down at the beach house to relax with the furry kids and friends. It's good to be back at the beach for the summer!
Also, the mimosa is finally in full bloom in the garden, which the bees are thrilled about. The yard is a scene of constant motion, fluttering, buzzing, and singing lately - what a great place to rest and relax!
